Thinking Like A Lawyer: My Journey with Wadham College’s Law Programme
Published: Fri 6 June 2025The Think Like A Lawyer programme by Wadham College has provided valuable insight into the law. Through the tutorial sessions I have been able to delve deeper into criminal law and tort law. These sessions hosted by experts of their field allowed me to understand the nuances and the specifics of those particular strands of law.
Furthermore, the academic sessions are followed by an assignment and a discussion session where we display our understanding of our learning and are questioned on our thoughts. These sessions allowed me to ask questions and explain my thought processes which helped me develop my critical thinking and problem solving skills.
This was followed by trips to Oxford University where I learnt more about the process of attaining a law degree and becoming a lawyer. I also had the opportunity to receive lectures from the law faculty in Oxford, meet undergraduates and have my first tutorial. In addition, a trip to the Linklaters law firm was beneficial in providing an understanding of what a job in the field can look like and the different branches within it. These experiences have been transformative, placing me in the strongest position to pursue my dreams of making a competitive application to Oxford and becoming a lawyer.
Over the next year, I will be receiving professional help to achieve the best personal statement, interview support and twenty hours of free tuition on my A-Level subjects.
This programme is one that I highly recommend to future lawyers who want to delve deeper into the law. It was one that I enjoyed greatly and has made me more excited and driven to become a lawyer!
