At ICS, we believe that the A level curriculum on its own is insufficient in preparing our students to be independent thinkers, critical enquirers and intellectual risk takers. We want our students to develop a scholarly mindset where they delve into an academic discipline and passionately explore ideas, concepts and the key body of knowledge.
What is our Super Curriculum?
Our Super Curriculum empowers our students to become deep thinkers, critical enquirers and intellectual risk-takers.
Our Monday Morning tutor time is used to deliver our innovative and extensive core super curriculum, including university-style lectures, seminars and masterclasses. Our interdisciplinary approach to education expands students’ knowledge beyond their curriculum, empowering you to understand the world from a multitude of perspectives.
Super Curricular activities include our ICS Philosophy Programme, external scholarship programmes (such as the Brilliant Club), academic research projects (such as IRIS and SCAMP), and utilising our university links for prestigious academic programmes, taster lectures and other activities. Additionally super curricular opportunities collated from our network of prestigious institutions and organisations will be circulated and promoted daily for students to pursue.
We also host Reading Supervisions, which are small group sessions exploring academic material that is beyond the A Level specification. Students come prepared ready to analyse, synthesise, evaluate and explore key concepts, ideas and practices for their chosen area of interest.
Why does the ICS Super curriculum exist?
Our Super Curricular programme aims to develop students academically, ensuring students are enabled to achieve their highest goals, empowering each to gain personal success.
The programme provides students with varied opportunities to discover their passion and support them in making informed choices about their next steps, whilst equipping them with the skills to follow that path.
Super Curriculum has been designed to be challenging and encourage ICS students to investigate and think deeply about big ideas and subjects outside of their comfort zone. The benefit is to help students become more well-rounded individuals with the ability to demonstrate wider academic knowledge and rigour when it comes to applying to universities and later into their careers.
ICS is committed to providing our students with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to take their place at some of the most competitive universities in this country and abroad and secure internships with high profile companies. Our Super Curriculum forms a key pillar of the unique holistic education we offer students.
Elevating Beyond the Specification
Each subject department organises two ‘Elevating Beyond the Specification’ opportunities per half term to support our students mastering their subjects, as well as developing them into deep thinkers, critical enquirers and intellectual risk takers.
These include educational trips, external competitions, guest speakers, seminars and workshops.
