Student leaders at the Lady Mayor’s Banquet
Published: Thu 11 December 2025“The Lady Mayor’s banquet was a momentous experience and a significant historic moment as the first ever Lady Mayor’s show, it was an honour to take part. Both the Prime Minister and the Lady Mayor’s speeches were enlightening and well-reasoned.” Andrew
History was made at Guildhall with the first ever Lady Mayor’s Banquet hosted. Head and Deputy Head Prefects – Andrew and Faridah, had the wonderful opportunity to attend and met influential figures, such as our Prime Minister, Sir Kier Starmer. The landmark event was hosted by Dame Susan Langley, the 697th Lord Mayor of the City of London and the first to use the title Lady Mayor. Led in the Great Hall at Guildhall, the banquet is one of the City’s most important working occasions, where the UK Prime Minister traditionally addresses major national and economic issues. For our students, attending this historic occasion offered a unique insight into how policy, business and tradition intersect at the heart of the UK’s economic life, and was rare opportunity to witness a defining moment in the City of London’s history.
The day consisted of a tour of the Guildhall, it has the largest surviving medieval crypt in London. The Guildhall is home to over 800 years of history and has been the setting for the Annual banquet since 1502. Our prefects had an amazing time walking through the same hallways that highly influential people throughout history have and basking in the glory of the medieval architecture.
Andrew and Faridah were able to meet other prefects from different schools and eat from an amazing four course banquet. They were served delicious cuisines such as chicken liver and crab pasta.
Prime Minister Kier Starmer and the Lady Mayor inspired Andrew and Faridah with their informative speeches on international relations, budget plans and the Lady Mayor’s plans as mayor. These speeches helped the prefects to learn about the importance of good relations and planning ahead as leaders.
“Being invited to the Lady Mayor’s Banquet was truly inspiring and I am grateful that I was able to attend such an occasion. It has motivated me to keep striving for excellence within my community.” Faridah
