Exploring Paris: Year 12’s ICS Adventure
Published: Thu 16 July 2026Some lessons simply cannot be taught within four walls. Our Year 12 trip to Paris was one of those experiences – a day that combined culture, history, independence and friendship, creating memories that will stay with students long after they leave Sixth Form.
An Early Start for an Unforgettable Adventure
The day began bright and early as students gathered before dawn to board the 6:00am Eurostar from London to Paris. Excitement was high as everyone embarked on the journey to the French capital, ready for a day filled with discovery, learning and unforgettable experiences.
After arriving in Paris, the group made their way on foot through the city’s bustling streets to the world-famous Louvre Museum. Home to some of the most celebrated works of art in history, the Louvre provided students with the opportunity to explore centuries of artistic achievement, from classical sculptures to Renaissance masterpieces, including the iconic Mona Lisa. Experiencing these incredible collections firsthand enriched students’ appreciation of art, history and global culture.
Sharing French Cuisine
Following a morning of exploration, it was time to refuel at Flams, a modern French restaurant inspired by the cuisine of the Alsace region in eastern France. Students enjoyed a delicious set menu of salad, unlimited flammekueche and dessert.
A Parisian Treasure Hunt
With renewed energy, students took part in a Paris treasure hunt, putting their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills into practice as they navigated the city’s historic streets. Working in small groups, they followed clues, discovered famous landmarks and explored hidden corners of Paris, all while developing confidence in finding their way around an unfamiliar environment. The activity encouraged collaboration, resilience and independence, perfectly supporting the wider aims of the trip.
In the early evening, everyone regrouped outside the magnificent Palais Garnier (Opéra Garnier), one of Paris’ most iconic architectural landmarks. After taking in the stunning surroundings and capturing a few final photographs, the group enjoyed a walk back through the city to Gare du Nord, reflecting on the day’s experiences and soaking up the atmosphere of Paris one last time.
Journey Home
The return Eurostar journey provided the perfect opportunity to relax after a busy and rewarding day. Students spent the journey playing Monopoly Deal and other card games, chatting with friends, sharing stories from the day’s highlights and enjoying each other’s company. It was a fitting end to a memorable trip, with laughter and conversation filling the train as everyone reflected on the incredible experiences they had shared.
More Than Just a Trip
The visit to Paris was about far more than sightseeing – it was carefully designed to support students’ personal development and enrich their experience at ICS. The trip also broadened students’ cultural capital. Experiencing one of Europe’s most iconic cities firsthand allowed them to appreciate different cultures, explore world-renowned art and architecture, and gain a deeper understanding of the history and heritage that shapes our world.
The Year 12 Paris trip created memories that will last a lifetime. As key members of our ICS community and future leaders, these are the stories students will look back on during graduation celebrations and farewell speeches – memories that will always remind them of the incredible journey they shared.
