A Launchpad for Physical Natural Sciences
Published: Mon 18 August 2025At ICS, our approach to Physical Natural Sciences is dynamic and forward-thinking — combining rigorous academics with meaningful enrichment. Our students are encouraged to challenge themselves, think creatively, and engage with science beyond the classroom.
This year has been particularly exciting, with students participating in a wide range of prestigious initiatives including the Industrial Cadets Awards, SPARC Gold CREST Awards, Chemistry Schools Analyst Challenge, Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, Imperial Interdisciplinary Science Masterclass, the IRIS Conference, and more. These opportunities go far beyond the classroom, encouraging students to think critically, explore their passions, and develop the skills to thrive at university and beyond.
Ayman, who achieved A*A*AA, will begin studying Physics at Imperial College London this September. He reflected on the unique academic culture at ICS:
“Going beyond the confines of the specification is vital. Ms Caulfield (Head of KS5 Maths) and Mr Wright (Head of Physics) worked closely to stretch us intellectually. Their joint sessions helped me truly appreciate applied mathematics and its real-world relevance.”
ICS continues to excel in Mathematics, with 83% of A-level Further Maths entries awarded A*-A.
Isabel, who secured A*A*A*A in 2024 and is now studying Physical Natural Sciences, said:
“I love the breadth of my course this year and the chance to explore a range of subjects before specialising. Staying connected with ICS — including speaking at the recent alumni panel event — has been a rewarding way to give back and inspire future cohorts.”
