Ready for the Room: From Etiquette Masterclass to Fine Dining at the Guildhall
Published: Fri 15 May 2026On the 1st of May, our Year 12 and Year 13 students attended a truly memorable event at the prestigious Guildhall in the heart of the City of London. Hosted in the historic Livery Hall, the occasion brought together students and staff for an evening of celebration, reflection, and preparation for future pathways.
The evening was designed as a fine dining experience for Year 12 students to mark the successful completion of their year, while also recognising Year 13 students as they prepare to transition into higher education and the next stage of their journeys.
Far more than a celebratory meal, the event provided a powerful learning experience beyond the classroom. Students were introduced to traditional British etiquette in a formal dining setting, building confidence, professionalism, and awareness of expectations in high-level social and professional environments. This learning experience helped students strengthen essential life skills, including communication, conduct, and self-assurance in formal settings – skills that will support them in university, employment, and wider life.
“The fine dining event at the Guildhall was not only a rare, enjoyable experience for our cohort, but also an extremely valuable one. It was our first insight into the world of fine dining, and we had learned both proper dining etiquette and its importance for our future. The experience was both highly educational and enjoyable – we are all feeling far more prepared and comfortable with fine dining in the future.” – Andrew
“It was such an eye-opening experience. I’ll be honest, something as simple as bread had me second guessing myself: knife, fork, or hands? Jamie explained it so naturally; you tear a bite-sized piece with your fingers and butter only that piece. Trying to cut it would’ve actually made more of a mess! It’s that kind of insight I never would’ve figured out on my own, and the way he broke it down just made everything click. I walked away genuinely more confident and with knowledge I’ll carry into every professional fine dining experience going forward.” – Nashita
Throughout the evening, students demonstrated maturity, pride, and enthusiasm as they reflected on their achievements and looked ahead to their future pathways. The experience served as an important moment to recognise the hard work and dedication of both year groups. We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students as they move on to higher education, and equally proud of our Year 12 students as they progress towards their final year of sixth form.
Ready for the Room” was a fitting celebration of ambition, achievement, and aspiration – set within one of London’s most historic and inspiring venues. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Education Strategy Unit at the City of London for the wonderful opportunity to take part in this experience. We would also like to thank Mr Kaddouri, Assistant Principal at City of London Academy Highgate Hill, for his support with delivering an etiquette masterclass prior to the event, which helped prepare students for the expectations of formal dining and professional environments.
