ICS Visits the HerAI: Shaping Our Future Conference

Our female students attended the HerAI: Shaping Our Future conference at City of London School for Girls. This conference was designed to empower young girls to venture into the rapidly growing field of Artificial Intelligence which is currently dominated by men. Through the various different talks from females currently working in the industry, our year 12 students were encouraged to question and challenge the existing beliefs about AI, and imagine themselves as pioneers to this new technology.

The talks shed light on both the positive and negative impacts AI has introduced to our lives. The introduction of Artificial Intelligence into the workforce led to the disappearance of many jobs. However, it also brought along many new job opportunities that will only continue to grow in the upcoming years. The guest speakers spoke about the current and possible job opportunities in the AI job market, and how professionals other than proficient computer scientists are needed. As a heavily male-dominated field, AI is currently adhered to men, and this can therefore create many issues when used by women. The conference also touched upon the dangers of AI, of how AI is being used to carry out acts of violence against women, and how there are not enough preventative measures due to most of the victims not being male. The speakers urged our female students to take a leap and be the changes we would like to see in the world of AI.

Our group of year 12 students found the experience enlightening, and had many questions buzzing around in their minds. At ICS, we hope to have our students change then world; not have the world change them.

”It was a very intriguing event! It allowed me to delve deeper into the impacts of AI – both positive and negative” Eshal, Year 12
